Reform St. Louis
Proposition R for Reform passed on April 5, 2022 with nearly 70% of the vote - congratulations St. Louis!
Voters should pick their representatives - not the other way around.
But in the City of St. Louis, far too often, the Board of Aldermen doesn’t work in the best interest of the people, and can draw their own ward lines in a way that gives them political power. But, we’re organizing to stop this practice.
In late 2020, Show Me Integrity convened a coalition of partners, activists, and concerned citizens to explore potential reform measures in the City of St. Louis, and from these meetings, Reform St. Louis was born.
With Proposition R, we want to end corruption at the Board of Aldermen and create a future for St. Louis that works in the best interest of the people who live here: one that ensures accountability, transparency, and equity. Reform St. Louis is a ballot initiative campaign in St. Louis City for Prop R for Reform and does three things:
Bans conflicts of interest from Alderpersons on legislative actions. Right now, Alderpersons can vote on legislation where they have a personal and financial conflict of interest. This policy would ban this.
Creates an independent citizens commission to draw the ward map boundaries, moving the power away from the Board of Aldermen.
Prohibits the overturning of the will of the people on voting methods without a public vote.
This policy is common-sense reform measures, and is supported by groups like Missouri Faith Voices, League of Women Voters, Women’s Voices Raised for Social Justice and SLACO (neighborhood organizations). View full list of endorsers here.
